TBCCC chills out at the Winter National in Cocoa Beach The Tampa Bay Classic Chevy Club made a great showing at the 18th annual Winter National in Cocoa Beach. Don Allen took home two trophies, Ron Cahill, Auggie Dias and Andy Yoder also brought home awards. Bob Martin and Doug Ward joined us, Bob Briggs brought his 57 BelAir, but left on Saturday evening. Some of the other members may have won trophies, but I didn't make it to the first half of the trophy presentation, so I dont have a full listing of who won yet. John Hayn, Lance Hayworth, Bob Hendryx, Frank Foglia, Lee Boswell and Mike Lewis attended without show cars, though Frank intended to show his car. Bob Briggs and Frank Foglia will share the TBCCC hard luck award. Bob had problems with what turned out to be loose lug nuts and a broken trunk lock, while Frank had a fuel pump go bad. Bob was able to get his car to the show after a brief detour to a repair shop in Haines City and we were able to remove the rear seat and gain access to the trunk and pop the lock.. Frank had to leave his car at the repair shop in Orlando and rented a car to drive to the show. I was originally hoping to have both my cars at the Winter National, but the Nomad is not yet complete and the BelAir still needs a little bit of tweaking to be ready for a judged show. I am hoping to have both cars there next year. Just a few of us made it over on Thursday. Ron Cahill, Don Allen and Bob Hendryx all attended the Thursday evening bbq dinner. I won a prize in the trivia contest by naming the last astronaut to walk on the moon (Gene Cernan). The prize was a 56 Chevy wall hanging, which I gave to Ron Cahill and a gift certificate good for a Chevy headliner from a supplier to Ecklers. Unfortunately for me, I just purchased a new headliner for the Nomad a few weeks ago and the BelAir headliner is just fine. I will probably give away this certificate as a prize at our show in March. On Friday evening, many of the members gathered for dinner at The Surf restaurant in Cocoa Beach and on Saturday many of us chowed down on barbeque at the Slow and Low BBQ restaurant. Both dinners were very enjoyable. The Winter National show was slightly dampened by rain on Friday afternoon and evening and very windy conditions. The Tampa Bay Classic Chevy Club swap meet did well. We sold $248 worth of merchandise donated to the club by Lee Boswell and Ed Bittmann. Many thanks to Lance Hayworth, Frank Foglia, John Hayn and Pat Hendryx for helping me operate the booth. Thanks go out to John Hayn, Doug Ward and Pat for helping me pack everything up Saturday afternoon. Also, thanks to treasurer Glen Craigie for lending us some tables and other supplies to operate the swap meet. Dan Neumann from Largo had a swap meet space and had some 57 Chevy door edge guards for sale. A pair of these door edge guards will be installed on my BelAir this week. Dan does stainless steel straightening and is very highly recommended if you need any of that work done. We also distributed car show flyers to every car show owner and swap meet operator in attendance. There were a lot of great cars at the Winter National. We met a prospective new member from St. Pete who has an awesome black 69 Camaro that he plans to bring to our show on March 13th. It took home 2 or 3 awards. That car and a surf green 57 4-door hardtop were my personal favorites at the show. We expected to have a bonus with the last scheduled nighttime launch of the space shuttle, but adverse weather conditions postponed the launch. I am very happy with what our club accomplished at the Winter National and am looking forward to next years event Thanks to all for another great turnout at this very important meeting! The CCI Winter National is this weekend, February 4-7 at the International Palms Resort and Conference Center in Cocoa Beach. A few members are going on Thursday, some more are coming on Friday and others expect to come on Saturday for the day. I look forward to seeing you all over there. If you volunteered to help man the swap meet space, come the swap meet area at your appointed time or call me on my cell at 813-951-1722 to find out where the space is located. We will sell parts donated to the club by Ed Bittmann and Lee Boswell and hopefully generate a few extra bucks for the treasury. Thank you to Treasurer Glen Craigie for loaning us some tables and supplies to use for the weekend! Remember, we have been invited to join my friend David Wonsey for dinner Friday night at 5:30 at a nearby restaurant. I think we have a total of ten members and wives going. We will leave the show at a few minutes past five. So plan on meeting in the lobby at 5pm on Friday if you are going to dinner with us. February 27th - Meet at 8:30am TBCCC Monthly Breakfast meeting at Ben's Family Restaurant at 704 E. Brandon Blvd. We will leave the restaurant at 9:45 and caravan together to the Bay Life Church Car show at 1017 Kingsway Blvd in Brandon. If you cant make it to the breakfast, but want to go to the show, let me know and I will hold you a space in our area. March 13th - University Chevrolet All Chevy Car and Truck Show 8am-3pm Many thanks to Ron Cahill, Bill Mergens, Ron Moore and Al Bowron for their help in planning the show and handing out flyers at the Devereaux car show in Sarasota. Also to Don Allen who is training the judges for the show. And to John Hayn for helping us with a donation that will allow us to have dash plaques. Another member who wishes to remain anonymous has made a cash donation and helped with the printing expense. I have helped with the printing expense. These contributions will give us enough cash to have tons of trophies, a DJ, dash plaques and lots of fun on March 13. We will also have trophies for our own cars, which will be judged separately. My wife spoke with Mason Dixon about our show and he has committed to giving it mentions on the air. We will also get exposure on the Channel 10 show called Ten Connects that airs at 10am Mondays. I expect that we will have a couple members cars shown on the air during the show. We are already on several Florida car show websites and word is getting around fast. I got a call today from an attorney who wants to be a vendor at our show and we have a few other vendors who have already committed. The most important part of promoting a car show is to get flyers in the hands of car owners. Several members have committed to handing out flyers for the show, including Bob Hendryx, Ron Cahill, Richard Diorio, John Hayn. Ken Weiland, Pat Hendryx, Doug Ward, David Ball, Lance Hayworth, Marty and Larry Flynn, Chuck Palusak, Bill Mergens and others (apologies to those I have not mentioned, but all flyer distributors will be given special recognition for their efforts at the next club meeting). Your efforts will make this show a success! If you committed to handing out flyers at an event, but cannot fulfill that commitment, please call Bob in advance so we can schedule someone else to do it. Planning Committee: Bob Hendryx, Ron Cahill, Bill Mergens Sales Committee: Bob Hendryx, Bob Briggs, Ken Weiland Parking committee: Ron Cahill, Chuck Palusak, Doug Ward, Jerry Adamson, the Flynn brothers (These members need to be at University Chevrolet at 7am and will park cars until approximately 10am. These members may be asked to fill in on other duties during the show.) Registration: Claudia Cahill and Ruth Weiland. If they need help, Bob Briggs suggested his wife could pitch in. Judging committee: Don Allen will chair the committee and will be assisted by members of the parking committee, if needed. Don will train the judges, supervise them on the day of the event and will insure that all cars are judged and judging ballots are tabulated. Food Sales: Ken Weiland, Pat Hendryx, Al Bowron 50/50 Drawing: Frank Foglia T-shirt sales: Dale Seiter, Glen Craigie and Regina Diorio Pop up tents: Bob Briggs, Ron Cahill and Ken Weiland will bring pop up tents. These need to be in place at 7:30am on the day of the show. Tables and chairs: Ken Weiland and possibly Glen Craigie Trophy presentation: I will make some remarks and DJ Tiny and University Chevrolet owner Dennis Slater will do trophy presentations. Bob Hendryx will be in touch will all committee members over the next two weeks for planning and preparation. Here is what we still need: Gift certificates or prizes to giveaway. If anybody has any connections with any restaurants or store owners, please call Bob at 813-951-1722. Also at the meeting, we celebrated Ken Weiland's birthday with cupcakes and singing of Happy Birthday, Bob Hendryx won the 50/50 drawing for the second straight month and donated winnings to the club, we sold some of the extra car plaques we ordered. Thats it for now. If you were not at the meeting and can help with the car show in anyway, we need help with sponsorships, prizes, trophy donations, etc. As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome. Bob Hendryx 813-951-1722 TBCCC January Meeting Report As we look forward to 2010, let me thank all of our members for your participation and involvement in the Tampa Bay Classic Chevy Club. A year ago we were an idea. Today, we are a real club. Although we have accomplished a lot in our short existence, we have bigger and better things in our future. I am grateful for what our group has been able to accomplish. I was thrilled that Don and Carole Allen were in attendance! Don is recovering very nicely from his triple bypass and should be back to 100 percent very soon. Frank Foglia is also doing well. Hopefully Frank will be back in action at next month's meeting. He is planning on attending the Winter National in Cocoa Beach. Many thanks to Claudia Cahill for filling in as Secretary at this month's meeting. Claudia did a great job and also helped with the 50/50 drawing. Dale Seiter will be back next month. November TBCCC Membership Meeting Report
I want to thank Ron Cahill for conducting this months meeting and thank Ken Weiland for stopping by my house to pick up supplies needed to conduct the meeting.
We had two special guests at this months meeting. Ed and Judy from J and E Chevy came to talk about their classic Chevy parts business. I have purchased many parts from them and have found the prices to be very competitive. If you need classic Chevy parts, J and E Chevy will be at the Zephyrhills swap meet and will have a huge selection of Chevy Goodies!

We also had Craig from the Sumter swap meet as a guest. They hold swap meets on the first Sunday of most months, except when it is too hot in the summer, and great deals can be found there.
The club will participate in the St. Petersburg Yacht Club car show on Sunday, November 15th. Members who are planning to attend this event should contact Bob for meeting instructions.
There will be no breakfast meeting in November.
I will be selling items donted to the club at the Zephyhills swap meet November 12-13-14. If you are planning to attend the swap meet, come and give me a hand for awhile.
If you are planning to go the Turkey Run in Daytona, look for Ron and Ken, who will be there for most of the event. I will be there with my two cousins visiting from Michigan on Friday. Call me if you are planning to be there that day and we will meet up.
If I don't see you before Thanksgiving, I wish everyone a great holiday.
Mason Dixon Christmas Wish Show and Airport Detour
Ken Weiland, Frank Foglia and I met up in Brandon and headed to the Mason Dixon Christimas Wish Show to meet up with John Hayn, Doug Ward, Wally Osinga and Robert Ivey at the show. I didn't see them when we pulled in to the location, but they saw us and we all fell into line and got parking spots. This was Wally Osinga's first outing with the club and we are glad he could attend. We all made good use of Wally's popup tent.
There were probably over 400 cars at the show, with something to appeal to just about every taste. Rat rods, street rods, a pair of 60's nostalgia drag cars, the NASCAR Chevrolet that Tony Stewart drove to victory at Indianapolis Brickyard 400, a Bentley once owned by a member of the Beatles and much more.
Entertainment was provided by Mason Dixon of Q105, Elvis impersonator Gary Elvis and a live band that did a lot of 70's-80's era music.
Trophy presentation was at 3:30pm and finished at 4pm and we were all headed home by 4:30. With all the construction of Route 60 near the airport, I accidentally took the airport exit! So Frank, Ken and I all made a detour to Tampa International Airport on our way back home!
The Mason Dixon Christmas Wish Show was very well organized and a fun event that benefits some very needy children. This will be a great event for the club to consider making a permanent fixture on our annual calendar.
Plant City Breakfast Meeting
Bob Hendryx and Frank Foglia attended the meeting, in spite of recovering from minor surgeries. Bob had knee surgery and Frank had a fixit job done on a toe.
Both should be back to normal by the November 4th monthly meeting at University Chevrolet.
Ken Weiland asked about plans for the Tampa Bay Classic Chevy Club Christmas Party and he and I will be getting together to lay out plans, which we will present at the November meeting.
Terry and Sue Getz have pretty much completed their kitchen remodeling project and were able to come to the meeting and showed off their beautiful new motorcycle.
Cool temperature bring out BIG crowds for the Lake Mirror Classic
Doug Ward, Ken Weiland and Bob Hendryx met early Saturday morning and cruised to Lakeland for this years edition of the Lake Mirror Classic. The weather was very cool early, but the autumn chill made way for perfect weather by noon.
I think the perfect weather helped contribute to the great crowd of spectators at the Lake Mirror show. Plenty of pictures were taken of our cars!
Doug brought an issue of a Drag Racing news magazine from the mid-60's, which generated a lot of great memories for me. Ken and I spent much of the day counting dogs. Yes, dogs. We lost count somewhere after several dozen.
Tech Director Tom Dufour brought a Pontiac that he had restored for a customer before doing my BelAir.
As always, the car show was remarkable. There are cars that show at the Lake Mirror Classic that do not show elsewhere, making it a most unique event. Packards, Studebakers, Oakland, Knox and several other automakers from days gone by were represented in the promenade area surrounding Lake Mirror. All these cars in the concourse area looked like they had just rolled off the showroom floor.
Hot times at the Tampa Fairgrounds
John Hayn brought his 409 '61 Biscayne and Doug Ward, Joe Dwyer, Gordon Marks and I showed our cars at the NSRA show on Saturday, October 10th. Lots of people walking by John's car pointed out that 409 engine as they walked by. The show was well run and they had about 1,400 cars of all descriptions in attendance. Lance Hayworth, Ken Weiland and Vinny Villano came as spectators on Saturday and Peter Gonzalez made the rounds on Friday.
It was a blazing hot day and we were in a sunny area, so we sought out the air conditioning of the exhibitors building a couple times during the afternoon to cool off.
One car owner had crafted his street rod body completely out of mahogony. A rat rod owner had installed "gull wing" doors on his car by installing hinged pieces of bent aluminum in his roof for access to the car. My favorite display was the GM power accessories, especially the huge 572 cubic inch crate engine that they fired up several times during the afternoon. The roar of that awesome engine reminded me of my old drag racing days.

We have a lot of events coming in the next few weeks and hopefully the weather will begin to cool off soon to make it more comfortable showing our cars.
Many thanks to Ken Weiland who handed out flyers for us at the Plant City car show on Saturday, September 19th. The Plant City Chamber of Commerce reserved a spot for our cars in the parking lot just south of the old train depot in downtown Plant City. We were grateful for the shade we got from a palm tree on a very hot day! Thankfully, the cooler and more comfortable weather will be coming soon.
Mike showed his 66, Don and Doug brought their 55's, Bob and Ed had their 57's and Dale Seiter and Lee Boswell came and joined in on the fun. Jerry Adamson also came by and said hello and promised one of these days he will get his car out of the garage. Ron Cahill's 56 was having a wiring issue, but should be running soon.
